Dan Savage | “We can learn to ignore the bullshit in the Bible about gay people…”

Gay author and gay rights campaigner, Dan Savage, offended a number of Christian high school students during a speech at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle. During the video, students can be seen exiting the auditorium.

Cue *eyeroll*…

Savage can often be considered “edgy,” but it’s refreshing to see the Bible thumpers on the receiving end of some verbal aggression. It’s one thing to have your religion called out, it’s a whole other thing to have your being as a homosexual put down.

A taste of their own medicine.

I would have stood up and walked out as well, being a christian is just as much a part of me as my sexual orientation. There is a better way to respond to people who are referencing the bible with regards to sexuality than to say the bible is wrong because if it is wrong then you have no means with which to convince them. To every instance that he uses against the bible there is a significant amount of historical and contexual information to which explains each of those instances in the same way that there is regarding homosexuality. Someone has done a wonderful job of going through each of them and using them and the importance of understanding context when reading the bible to show support for homosexuality. I am trying to find where I put that and i think it is somewhere on my tumblr but will repost as soon as I find it. And I take that back I probably would stay and respond to him about this issue for as he says “I have the right to defend myself”

The time of religion has ended.
